Two-start pitchers for Week 16 of Fantasy Baseball

Happy to see you again! Hope you enjoyed the All-Star break. Now is the time to strap in and win your fantasy baseball league. It doesn’t matter if you’re sitting at the top of the leaderboard or in the cellar. As the great Kevin Garnett once said “Anything is possible!” Pitcher rotations are going to be very complicated for the next week, so it is imperative that you check the Fangraphs starting pitcher grid carefully before making any moves. Here are the two-start pitchers for Week 16 (7/25-7/31).
Essential: These pitchers must be pitched regardless of the match-up. They are a staple in all leagues until further notice.
should start: These pitchers should start in most leagues. This is based on the pitcher’s pedigree and/or favorable matches.
Questionable: Only start these pitchers if you’re in a deep rotation or points league, desperate to count stats, or feeling lucky.
Sit: Do not start these pitchers.

Max Fried is 10-3 with a 2.95 xERA with 109 strikeouts in 119.1 innings pitched. Fried did a great job limiting hard contacts and not walking the batters. Fried has 14 quality starts, which ties him with Shane McClanahan, Yu Darvish, Joe Musgrove and Corbin Burnes for third in baseball. Next week, Fried travels to Philadelphia to face the Phillies (112 wRC+) and then returns home to face the Arizona Diamondbacks (93 wRC+).

Pablo Lopez MIA | 3.84 | @RIC | NYM |

Pablo Lopez is starting to enter uncharted territory as he has never pitched more than 111 innings in a single season. He currently sits at 109 innings this season, so after his next start he will enter the great unknown. Can Lopez last a full season? We’ll see. Currently, Lopez has a 3.14 ERA and a 1.09 WHIP, with 107 strikeouts in 109 innings. Its 3.84 xERA and 3.72 SIERA suggest a bit of regression is ahead but nothing too drastic. Next week, Lopez will face the Cincinnati Reds (86 wRC+) at Great American Ball Park, then he will return home to face the New York Mets (111 wRC+).
Jose Berrios appears to be back on track after a horrific start to the season. Over his last 23.1 innings, Berrios has a 3.09 ERA and a 1.24 WHIP with 29 strikeouts and just four walks. Next week he has two home games. He faces the St. Louis Cardinals (105 wRC+) and the Detroit Tigers (68 wRC+).

Ranger Suarez PHI | 4.12 | ATL | @ PIT |
Trevor Rogers MIA | 4.95 | @RIC | NYM |
Nick Lodolo, the Cincinnati Reds’ number two prospect, is next week’s classic upside-down game. Lodolo boasts excellent batting numbers, but he has a 5.81 ERA and 1.78 WHIP. Right now it is best suited for point leagues. However, if you’re feeling lucky, his 29.0K% mixed with his 3.40 SIERA suggests he could have a breakout second half. The 24-year-old southpaw remains at home for two solid matchups against the Miami Marlins (76 wRC+) and Baltimore Orioles (93 wRC+).
Noah Syndergaard is 5-2 with a 4.29 xERA with 58 strikeouts in 74.1 innings. Thor has a 6.4 BB% which ranks in the 71st percentile in baseball. Even so, he is not the “Thor” we knew in New York. Next week he will face the Oakland Athletics (72 wRC+) and the Seattle Mariners (107 wRC+). He’s only had three starts where he’s given up more than four runs, so I can understand him throwing it if you’re not too worried about your ratios.
