LOS ANGELES – In a back-and-forth between the USC baseball team and the visiting Omaha Mavericks, Trevor Halsema got the last laugh for the Trojans, hitting a brace in the 12th inning to give USC a 4-3 victory Friday night at Dedeaux Field.

Halsema fired one off the wall to score Rhylan Thomas of second base with two outs in the 12th, clearing the Trojan dugout for a field celebration in the process. The Trojans go 3-2 on the year, while Omaha, which was coming off a win at UCLA on Tuesday, drops to 2-4.

The lead changed hands four times on the night, with the Mavericks tying the game in the top of the eighth to send it to extras. Troy’s pitching staff allowed single runs in the sixth, seventh and eighth, but other than that he threw nine scoreless frames, giving up one walk and scattering seven hits.

USC took a 1-0 lead thanks to a Nick Lopez doubled in the fifth, but the Mavericks came right back to tie in the sixth, then take the lead with a homer in the seventh.

The Trojans bounced back with a two-point bottom of the seventh to come back in the lead 3-2, getting the RBI from Thomas and Tyresse Turner. Thomas’ brace in the seventh was one of two braces on the day as he also led in the 12th with a brace to move into goalscoring position for Halsema.

A sacrifice fly for Omaha tied it in the eighth and the pitching teams combined for four scoreless frames before USC won in the 12th.

USC starter isaac esqueda earned the no-decision despite giving up only one earned run in 6.2 innings. Charlie Hurley picked up the win after pitching the 11th and 12th innings scoreless. Adrian Colon Rosado had four hits in the game and scored twice.
