The IMPACT women’s hockey team recruits from the brothers’ family
PROVIDENCE, RI – This Saturday, May 8, the Providence College women’s hockey team welcomed a new addition to the team, Lily. The team collaborated with Team IMPACT, a non-profit organization, whose mission is to improve the quality of life of children facing serious and chronic illnesses through the team’s power to welcome Lily into the Friar family. .
Lily is a 15 year old from Cranston, RI who was paired with the team last fall. Since October, Lily has been following and encouraging the team through Zoom calls twice a month. Lily was greeted by the brothers head coach Matt kelly and the rest of the team at a Schneider Arena Zoom press conference.
“You’ve been a positive this year. We’ve had some ups and downs, but the videos you sent kept us connected and motivated us to keep winning games.” The Head Coach Matt kelly mentionned. “We are so happy to have you outside of our family.”
Junior Ciara Barone (North Tonawanda, NY), a member of the Team IMPACT steering group, explained, âToday is your big day, and we are so happy to be able to share it with you. While we’ve faced a number of challenges this year, having Zoom Calls with you makes us smile during the toughest times. “
The 15-year-old described being with the squad as “an incredible and life-changing experience”. Lily will continue to meet with the Zoom team over the summer and looks forward to meeting the team on campus next fall.
