Tahoe Lakers’ ‘relentless’ ice hockey hits Vegas
SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif .– The mighty Lake Tahoe Lakers continue to score at a high pace early in the season.
The Lakers swept their second straight home series and have six straight games unbeaten. They beat the Thunderbirds 9-4 Friday, 6-2 Saturday and 5-2 Sunday at Lake Tahoe Ice Arena.
“We’re relentless with our score and our forward failure,” said head coach and assistant general manager Dan Bogdan. “We are exhausting the teams. We had a great turnout on Friday and Saturday.
The three-game series kicked off Friday with a defenseman showing off his offensive skills.
Luke Stevens, who won the Player of the Week award for the first week of the season, started the second week on a high note, including a hat trick and three assists. He was involved in six of the team’s nine goals.
“Some of the goals he scored were incredible,” Bogdan said.
Ari Rossi had a big game on Saturday with two goals and one assist.
The Lakers shot 51 shots on goal on Saturday and Bogdan said his team probably had as many per game on average.
On Sunday, team captain Jett Arminen, a right winger, contributed to every goal. He scored once and assisted on the other four.
“He’s averaging around four points per game so far,” Bogdan said.
The Lakers will hit the road next weekend for three games against Ontario. Fans interested in watching the games can sign up for a subscription to hockeytv.com.
The Lakers don’t return home until the end of the month, on Halloween weekend. They will play a three-game series from October 29 to 31.
