Many fans of the clan have been active on social media to demand that the facility be ceded to the clan, with others claiming ice hockey is the only reason they visit the mall.
You would think @Savills would bite @ClanIHC transfer given the crowds the clan brings (compared to some senior football teams too) and the footfall it brings to the center as a result #ClanForTheFuture https://t.co/MVTgbIiN8H

With a regular attendance of 2,500 to 3,000 fans each week. Inc the Christmas period. While spending money in the center versus occasional events, it seems unnecessary to keep the clan. #ClanForTheFuture #GlobalMutual @Savills @glasgow_clan @ClanIHC @NicolaSturgeon ðð pic.twitter.com/ZoJEJpP8Pm

The petition read: âWe ask you to mobilize, vote and show your support to help secure the future of the Glasgow Clan and many other community groups and users of the Braehead Arena rink.
âWith no current rink to play on, and already a huge shortage of other local ice facilities in Scotland, an arena change used by current owner Global Mutual is a threat. Not only a threat to the future of a team, which many support and love, but also for a facility that is used by many members of the local community through several ice sports, at all levels, in the region and in the central belt of Scotland.

“It would be a travesty if we lost access to this facility within our local community which would threaten the existence of a team that brings so much money to the region on match days through the huge fan bases. at home and away, as retail struggles to recover from the current pandemic.
âFor the past 11 years, the Glasgow Clan has been the main tenant of the Braehead Arena building, the owner being a customer for over 20 years and the Paisley Pirates a tenant for 14 years. Following the collapse of Intu Braehead Leisure at the end of 2020, the Glasgow Clan has entered into negotiations with the new London owners of the Braehead Shopping Center with the aim of becoming the new operating company of Braehead Arena.
âThis long-term commitment of the Glasgow Clan to maintaining and developing ice sports at the Braehead Arena, in addition to ambitious and substantial infrastructure plans for the site, will secure the future of this facility for the benefit of the local community and surrounding areas.

âWe would ask Global Mutual to begin positive discussions with the Glasgow Clan imminently to help secure their future as well as that of the Paisley Pirates, all ice users and the community at large. By providing the current Glasgow Clan organization with security of ownership, we believe this will ensure future access to this top notch ice facility for all users in the community.
Last week, a spokesperson for Global Mutual said: âWe are committed to finding the best possible solution to ensure the long-term viability of the Braehead Arena. Our team is currently evaluating proposals from a number of interested parties and we will communicate our decision as soon as possible, possibly by the end of this month. ”
