Porter added to Central women’s basketball team – Oskaloosa News

PELLA—New Central College women’s basketball coach Moran Lonning adds a familiar face to her team.
Essance Porter, who played at Simpson College during Lonning’s tenure as assistant coach, will coach the junior women’s central team.
A 2022 Simpson graduate, Porter came off the bench, appearing in 13 games last season and averaging 3.2 points. She played 19 games during her career.
Porter served as a student instructor for four Simpson women’s basketball camps and also served as a YMCA summer camp leader in Waco, Texas.
“After five years coaching Essance and witnessing her infectious energy and ability to make those around her feel so special, it’s hard to imagine being in a gym without her,” said Lonning said.
“She’s always had a passion for coaching and I’m thrilled that she’s now stepping into the coaching role here. I hope I can help guide her because I’ve loved our relationship as a player and a coach and I’m excited to see what the future holds for us as coaches together.
