Pete Carroll ‘passionate’ at NFL meetings

Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll reportedly commanded the room at least for a while during the NFL’s annual league meeting. His schedule? Understand the need to support minority hiring.

The Seahawks coach may also have ruffled a few feathers in a room full of some of the most influential minds in the NFL.

Via Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk:

But that hasn’t stopped some from issuing direct reminders to officials. According to multiple sources with knowledge of the situation, Seahawks coach Pete Carroll gave an “impassioned speech” regarding the NFL‘s struggles with diversity during last week’s league meetings in Florida.

A source said Carroll’s comments were strong enough to make people in the room uncomfortable to the point of anger. Another source was unsure if the Seahawks coach’s remarks actually provoked or should have irritated those in the room.

The lack of minority hires has been an issue that has been at the forefront of the NFL coaching carousel lately, and particularly this season with the lawsuit filed by former Miami Dolphins head coach Brian Flores. Flores laid out some of the behind-the-scenes issues he experienced first-hand as a minority trying to find a high-level coaching job in the NFL.

Clearly, things struck a chord with Pete Carroll enough to prompt the Seahawks coach to issue his own stern reminder.
