Ice Hockey: No. 9 Ridge scores 4 unanswered to beat Hunterdon Central in Skyland semis

Facing a 3-0 deficit midway through the second period, third-seeded Ridge, No. 9 in NJ.com’s Top 20, scored four unanswered goals to earn a win from behind over second-placed Hunterdon Central. seeded 4-3 in the Skyland Conference Tournament Semi-Final at Flemington Ice Arena.

Alex Helgeson scored two goals, one on the power play late in the second to start the comeback as well as the winning goal in the third.

Zach Alvin scored a pair of third quarter goals while Denis Kuzmenkov assisted twice for Ridge (15-3-5), who is undefeated in his last 16 games.

Nick DelGaizo, Jamie Zimmerman, Egor Barabanov, Nick DeCandia, Jimmy McNally and Reese Judson each had an assist while Henry Craig saved 19 of 22 shots between the posts for Ridge, who edged Hunterdon Central by a count of 41 -22 in victory.

Michael Catalano, Darren Szanto and Griffin Meyer scored a goal each for Hunterdon Central, which fell to 8-5-3 with the loss.

Ridge will face the winner of Thursday’s semifinal between fifth-seeded Pingry and top-seeded Hillsborough in the final round on Saturday night. Should Hillsborough live up to their top-seeded position and advance to the Finals, they will stage a rematch of a pair of regular season games from earlier this year, one resulting in a 3- 2 for Hillsborough and the other in a 4-4 draw.
