HICKORY, North Carolina – Lenoir-Rhyne Baseball scored its 14 runs in the 6th and 7th innings, and the pitching staff struck out 14 or more batters for the sixth straight game as the Bears earned a 14-4 midweek home win against Limestone on Wednesday night at Durham Field. The Bears remain undefeated in the 13-game home game in February.

STATISTICS AND INFO

  • The first five innings of the game were a pitching duel. LR starter Tanner Moyers has not given up a run in four innings, and Caleb Cockerham threw a scoreless fifth.
  • Limestone grabbed the game’s first run in the top of the 6th inning on a disallowed runner on third base.
  • The Bears recorded just two hits through the first five innings, but then exploded in the sixth.
  • Drew Yniesta started things off with a walk, Nick Clarno reached on a single in the field, Luis Atiles recorded a bunt single and LR’s RBI frontman Antoine Porrino delivered again with a two-point brace to score Yniesta and Clarno.
  • Bryce Stober then single to Atiles, and was followed by another RBI single from Bretty Eurey.
  • Wade Cuda continued his recent tear, doubling Stober. Cuda earned SAC and Regional Player of the Week honors after his .550 week.
  • After Cuda’s double, Cole Laskowski single in two more runs with the infield.
  • Clarno closed the score in the inning with an RBI single. LR finished the inning with eight runs and eight hits.
  • LR had six more points in the 7th, five of which came from walk-laden goals/throw-in touchdowns.

BEYOND THE SCORE BOX

  • The 9-1 start for LR is the best since 2017, when the Bears won the first nine games of the season.
  • LR have now scored double-digit points in four consecutive games. The Bears went 13-0 in double digits in 2021.
  • The Bears used 22 players from different positions and six different pitchers in the game.
  • LR have now won four of the last five games against Limestone. The Bears have taken three of the Saints’ four in 2021 in an SAC weekend series.
  • The Bears go 15-2 all-time against Limestone at Hickory.

FOLLOWING: The Bears host Shippensburg, PA at Hickory for a three-game series starting Friday with a doubleheader at Durham Field.
