Baseball sweeps Binghamton to start conference play 3-0

VESTEL, NY – The University of Maine baseball team finished Binghamton’s weekend sweep to start the conference game 3-0 on Sunday, with the final score 7-1.
First round: Joe Bramanti puts the Black Bears ahead in the first inning as he hits an RBI groundout at third base, heading home Jeff Mejia. Quinn McDaniel scores two pitches later as Ryan Bryggman threw a wild pitch.
Second round: Jake Marquez kept the offense going for the Black Bears as he hit an RBI single to center field, heading home Jake Rain. Jeff Mejia follows with a 2-run single to right field, driving home Ryan Turenne and Jake Marquez to make it 5-0 Black Bears in the second.
Round four: Joe Bramanti kept the Black Bears moving as he hit a 2-run homer to center field, giving the Black Bears a 7-run lead down the frame. Jeff Mejia can around score on the long ball.
Ryan Bryggman’s day came to an end after the fourth inning, as he pitched 4 innings, allowing 7 runs (all earned) and striking out 4.
Sixth inning: Cavan Tully broke through on the scoreboard for Binghamton down the frame as he drew a loaded walk, bringing Devan Bade home.
by Jordan Schulefand the day ended after the 6thand inning. He got off to a quality start, pitching 6 innings, allowing a run and striking out 5.
Maine would walk away with the win and sweep the series away from Binghamton with a 7-1 win on Sunday.

Noah Lewis recovered the 3 inning stoppage, allowing no runs on the final 3 frames of the game while striking out 2.
Maine, which starts conference play with a perfect 3-0 score, returns to Orono as the Stony Brook Seawolves come to town for a weekend of March 25-27.
