FALCONER – Fredonia (1-0-1, 1-0) busted for 10 runs in the top of the first inning, scoring eight times with two outs, and earned a five-inning 25-0 victory over Falconer (0-1 , 0-1) in the Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 1 opener for each team.

Winning pitcher Owen Ludwig struck out eight while allowing just one hit, a first single by Dalton Caldwell, which was obliterated on an innings-ending double play. Ludwig received plenty of offensive support like Gabe Schrader (four RBI, three runs scored), Owen Rush (double, three RBI, and three runs scored), Trevor Persch (three RBI, five runs scored), and Andrew Cowan (two RBIs and three runs). scored) all had three hits. Simon Davis (double, two RBI and four runs scored) and Micah Davis (double, three RBI and one run scored) each had two hits. As a team, Fredonia had 17 hits.

ROTH NO-HITS COUGARS

SHERMAN — Gabe Roth didn’t pitch in Tuesday’s non-league game against Southwestern, so Clymer/Sherman/Panama would have the junior right-hander available for Wednesday’s Division 2 West opener against Cassadaga Valley.

Wolfpack head coach Jake Marino’s decision paid off.

Roth threw a no-hitter with 10 strikeouts as C/S/P beat the Cougars 12-0 in five innings.

Roth also opened the game with a first-inning solo home run for the Wolfpack (2-0, 1-0).

In the third inning, C/S/P fired on six runs. Ian Dunnewold, Dylan Michael and Kurtis Olson singled out, Roth walked and Micah Willink hit an error in frame.

Roth, Austin White and Willink each had two hits while Trent Burchanowski stole three bases in the win.

FENTON STELLAR IN DEBUT

BROCTON — Tucker Fenton went five no-hitter innings as Maple Grove beat Brocton 8-0 for freshman head coach Jason Yohe’s first win in the Division 2 West.

Fenton, a clerk from St. Bonaventure, struck out 13, walked five times and hit two batters before being lifted in favor of Kolden McCall to start the sixth inning. Ryan Laurito of the Bulldogs hosted McCall with a brace to break the no-hitter bid.

“Tucker threw the ball well” said Yohe. “With our limited time to be able to go out, they played very well tonight.”

Fenton hit an RBI single in the first inning to score Jackson Gowan as Maple Grove (1-0, 1-0) took a 1-0 lead.

In a two-run third, Kynan Egan hit an RBI brace to score Fenton. The Red Dragons took a 4-0 lead in the fifth inning heading into a seventh inning four run. McCall had the big hit with a two-run brace in the seventh.

Egan went 3 for 3 with two doubles and three RBIs, and Jake Vaillancourt also had two hits in the victory. McCall pitched the last two innings and struck out four while walking one.

Aiden Gatto and Laurito combined to pull off six for Brocton (0-1, 0-1).

ROSS EXCELS FOR WARRIORS

SALAMANCA – Jaxson Ross went 2 for 3 with a triple, an RBI and two runs scored while throwing a two hit with 10 strikeouts as Salamanca beat Randolph 10-0 in Division 3 action.

Jacob Herrick went 2 for 3 with a brace and two runs scored while Zaron Tucker had two hits and an RBI for the Warriors (3-0, 1-0).

Hayden Hoag and Tucker had RBI singles while Shawn Bacelli had an RBI groundout in a four-run first inning for Salamanca.

The Warriors scored four more runs in the second inning and two in the fifth, highlighted by a walk-away RBI triple from Ross to invoke the 10-run mercy rule.

Tristan Farnham and Joe Bohall each had a single for the Cardinals (1-1, 0-1).

BEARS CLOSING WESTFIELD

WESTFIELD — Jonah SanAngelo hit six innings while striking out 10 as Frewsburg shut out Westfield 6-0 in Division 2 West play.

Jake Stearns pitched the final inning and struck out two for the Bears (2-3, 1-0).

Chase Haglund, SanAngelo and Mitchell Lee each threw a run in the opening innings as Frewsburg took a 3-0 lead. In the seventh, Mason Eckman and Payton Dustin each tackled a run with tight bunts.

Every Bears starter had a single.

Danny Bratton scored a two-out single in the fifth inning for the Wolverines (0-1, 0-1).

DARK KNIGHTS WIN LATE

NORTH COLLINS — Shawn Kelly Jr. scored the winning run on a Jonah Fox pitch in the top of the seventh inning as Silver Creek/Forestville edged North Collins 4-3 in Division 3.

Kelly and Gavin Borrello walked to open the seventh before the two runners moved into wild terrain and Fox came in with the hit.

Late in the seventh inning, the Eagles had runners at second and third with one out, but game-winning pitcher Max Vigue collected a strikeout and groundout to end the game.

Fox went the first 3 1/3 innings with five strikeouts before Vigue pitched the last 3 2/3 innings with eight strikeouts for the Black Knights (1-0, 1-0). Cade Neubauer had two hits in the win.

Matthew Warsaw struck out seven in six innings and Derek Ebersole went 2-for-4 with a brace for North Collins.

FREDONIA TIES

LAKE SHORE

ANGOLA – Fredonia (0-0-1) and Lake Shore (0-0-1) opened the season with a back-and-forth that saw four lead changes and eventually ended early in an 8- 8 due to darkness.

Gabe Schrader led the Hillbillies offensive drive with two doubles, two RBIs and a run scored; Owen Rush had two hits, including a three-run double and four RBIs; Simon Davis added a single and a double and scored three times; and Trevor Persch has scored three times since his first place.

Brian Guest had two hits and started a run for Lake Shore.
