Despite making the Pro Bowl and finishing second in Rookie of the Year voting last season, a lot of people are still worried about Patriots quarterback Mac Jones.

An unnamed coach seems to suggest that Jones may have had the practice wheels as a rookie. According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, Jones was “overprotected” as a Patriots starter last year.

Reviews of Jones were mixed from the start. For one thing, he was one of the most efficient pitchers in the league last year, setting accuracy records.

But on the other hand, most of his passes were short to medium range. His deep ball accuracy clearly needed work.

So it’s no surprise that NFL fans have no doubts about the sincerity of this anonymous coach:

With the way the New England Patriots handled their offseason, Daniel Jones could experience a lot of changes on offense as a sophomore in the NFL.

Half of the offensive coaching staff left with mostly internal promotions made to fill the voids. The main offensive player this season will likely be Matt Patricia, who has always been primarily a defense coach.

It will be interesting to see how the Patriots handle Jones this coming season.

If they made the playoffs with Mac Jones being “protected”, what will become of them when he isn’t?
